Q&A

What do you consider yourself?

"An optimist."

How did you get into film?

"I used to want to be a menswear designer, but was making skate and music videos on the side, and I remember at 18 years old one of my best friends saying to me, “hey man, to be honest your clothes suck, but you’re onto something with those videos you make.” Best advice I’ve ever received."

Plans for the future?

"Create films that blur the lines between reality and fiction, pull at your heartstrings, and awaken an audience. Outside of film, I just want to hang out with my wife, dog, and continue being healthy enough to skate on the weekends."

What's the best ad campaign you've seen recently?

"Whatsapp’s ‘One’ campaign by Niclas Larsson."

What film do you think everyone should have seen?

"Come and See."

What’s your favorite TV show?

"Tales From The Loop. Highly underrated show with top tier artistry."

What website(s) do you use most regularly?

"Free Skate Mag, NY Times, Little White Lies, Heckride, Bandcamp, eBay"

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought?

"My wife and I were given a Breville Barista Express from some dear friends, and I’m totally hooked. We haven’t been to a coffee shop since."

Where were you when inspiration last struck?

"5 hours into a 10 hour flight. Insomnia always forces me into writing my favorite ideas."

What’s the most significant change you’ve witnessed in the industry since you started working in it?

"Commercials feel more like bite-sized films now more than ever. I love the overlap between filmmaking and commercials that exists today."

If there was one thing you could change about the advertising industry, what would it be?

"I’d love for it to be more “normal” for directors to be selected earlier on in the process, meaning we’d all be building the idea together from the ground up. Collaboration makes for the best projects and best environments on-set."

What or who has most influenced your career?

"Traveling, czech new wave, Spike Jonze, good conversation and falling in love."

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know.

"I’ve been run over by a car twice in my lifetime without ever breaking a bone. Ask me about it sometime."
